Birth indexes are made available after 75 years, marriage and death indexes after 50 years. The New York State Department of Health maintains and provides access to death records for individuals who passed away within the state. It does not have these records for New York City (the boroughs of Manhattan, Kings (Brooklyn), Queens, Bronx, and Richmond (Staten Island)).
